Focus Czech 1

En présence et Q&A avec Damián Vondrášek

Together (Spolu) / Damián Vondrášek / Republic Czech / 2015 / 0:07:00

He decides to rob a car to prove her love. A romance from the suburbs

on the edge of society.

Imprisoned (Vĕzení) / Damián Vondrášek/ Republic Czeck / 2016 / 0:27:00

An offer of a job as a prison educator could help unemployed teacher

Jakub resolve a difficult family situation. His father-in-law

exacerbates his already low self-confidence, and the man most

certainly imagined a different kind of son-in-law. The claustrophobic

feelings Jakub experiences at the prison, however, lead him to a

single question: Does he want to control others the rest of his life

or be controlled by them?

Focus Czech 2

Sugar (Cukr) / Tereza Vejdová / Czech Republic / 2019 0:25:00

Eighteen year old Maria strives to stand on her own feet. She lives

with her boyfriend but secretly works as a sugarbaby, providing

company to older men. The film explores the theme of closeness as a

commodity, in a society where capitalist principles rub off onto

personal relationships.

Reconstruction (Rekontrukce) / Ondrej Novak / Czech Republic / 2017 / 00:15:52 /

Olda is waiting for his trial in a detention centre for juveniles. He

tries to fill the void and forget about the recent past. The monotone

prison life is slowly intertwined with testimonies about his brutal

assault of a homeless man.

Easter (Lễ Phųc Sinh) / Chih Chieh Wu / Czech Republic / 2017 / 00:10:23 /

In order to offer a better future to her daughter, a Vietnamese mother

migrated to Czech Republic. She even hired a Czech nanny to help her

daughter fit in better in Czech society. However, she starts to feel

alienated from her daughter.

Autism as a gift / Josef Dvorak / Czech Rep. / 2017 / 00:26:00 /

The documentary AUTISM AS A GIFT is a sensitive testimony from the

parents of a nine-year-old autistic boy Ángel. They look at their

son's "disability" or "peculiarity" from a different perspective than

most of the society: to them it is a gift. Opportunity for

self-knowledge and self-education.

Waves (Vlnění) / Vojtěch Domlátil / Czech Rep. / 2017 / 00:03:00 /

An observer, who clears his mind to work with time and space. He not

only reaches certain pixilation ecstasy, but also, if he joins "the

wave", his way absorbs him completely. Non-narrative pixilation of the

Czech landscape.

Nabbin / Kat Tolkovsky / Czech Republic / 2018 / 00:30:00 /

The documentary is my coming of age among a community of Gypsies in

Nabbin, a small village in the Czech Republic. In the film I portray

the uninhibited and inspiring friendship with my wild friends.

Although this community is socially unprivileged, I’ve come to know

people full of generosity.
